The infrastructure of Wikinerds consists of:
  • The wikinerds.org domain name, paid by User:NSK
  • A dedicated server located in Copenhagen, Denmark, EU paid by User:NSK

The domain name is registered with godaddy.com.

It is paid by User:NSK.

[edit] 2 The Wikinerds server

The server is a rented dedicated box located in a datacentre in Copenhagen, Denmark, EU.

It has 100 Mbps connectivity with unmetered bandwidth.

The server costs about 135 EUR per month and is paid by User:NSK.

Administration is done by User:NSK as well.

Wikinerds was moved from a VPS (virtual private server) in Utah, USA to the dedicated server in Denmark on 31 October 2007.

The server hardware is as follows:

  • AMD Athlon64 3500+ 2.2GHz with 512k L2 cache and virtualisation support
  • 2GB RAM
  • Samsung 250GB 7200RPM SATA2 drive (300MB/s SATA2 link)
  • Fast Ethernet 100 Mbps network card

The server software is as follows:

  • Debian GNU/Linux 4.0r1 etch amd64 (updated)
  • BIND9
  • exim4
  • MySQL 5.0
  • PHP 5.2
  • Apache 2.2
  • MediaWiki 1.11.0 in the beginning, now 1.13.0

[edit] 3 Old infrastructure

From 2004 until 31 October 2007, Wikinerds was hosted on a VPS in Utah, USA.

The VPS had various hardware configuration during its life, such as:

  • Pentium4 3.4GHz, 1 MB L2 cache, 3GB RAM, 10GB hard disk space
  • PentiumIII, 3GB RAM, 10GB hard disk space

The VPS was using a GNU/Linux system based on RedHat 7.2 with Apache 1.3, PHP 5.2 (had 4.3, 4.4, 5.1 as well), MySQL 4.1 (had 3.23 as well), and sendmail. MediaWiki versions from 1.3 to 1.11 were used on that machine.
